First Tobogganing. Last Snow?
After the recent 6" snowfall (perhaps the last real snow this season?), we finally got a previous tenant's abandoned toboggan out of our basement and gave it a spin. Brought back memories from Longmead Road winters. Audrey was strangely quiet the entire time. Is it possible to be too young to enjoy a toboggan?

Pork loin and chocolate bunnies
Ari, Terri, and their kids are coming over tonight for our weekly Friday Night Dinner. Ari's mom is coming, too. She's visiting from Japan. I'm making a pork loin with fig chutney, onions, and carrots. I'm thinking I'll cut up some yam, too, to roast with the pork. Ken made chocolate brownies, and we have vanilla ice cream, too. Terri's bringing salad.
MMMmmmmm, slathering drool. Yummy.
I even bought chocolate bunnies for Easter for the chillens. And, black jelly beans for me. Black ones are the only jelly beans I actually like. I know, ew to all of you. But, they're the best! Couldn't bring myself to buy any marshmallow peeps, though. Shudder. Those are just TOO artificial to actually consume.

Been working on a business plan for a family film. It's been consuming and interesting. It's a market that's very different from typical indie films, b/c it's quite dominated by studio movies. This is a project that lends itself best to a DVD Premiere scenario, unless its filmmaker gets hooked up with a studio/studio-affiliated production company to produce it. I've identified potential distributors and comparable titles, but I still have homework to do about revenues in the direct-to-DVD market, and thus, revenue projections and possible Return On Investment scenarios. Fun, fun. :)
Need to make the bed now before Company arrives.
Oh, found a sewing class in the Adult Classes catalog last night. I've bought fabrics to make a patchwork, quilt-like duvet cover for our bed. I'd like to make that my project for the 6-week class, if I take it. Will post pictures when time comes.

Hunkalicious Ken
My mom says I need to blog more. I know. I haven't been as frequent with postings lately.
I've been busy with some paid gigs, which is great. On the flip side, when I'm not tending to Audrey, I'm working on the paid gig stuff. So, I haven't had time/brain power sufficient to post meaningful, quippy, entertaining, blathering tidbits. And, you all know, that's my preference. To post witticisms and insights of quivering poignancy on a consistent basis.

Audrey has two more teeth coming in. She's chewing on her hands a lot lately.
Don't remember if I mentioned that IFP MN has asked me to be on a panel for its annual Producers Conference on April 26th. I'm flattered, delighted, and enthused. I'll be listening to pitches from screenwriting/filmmaking students the day before, too. I'm looking forward to all of it.
Ken has an interview tomorrow that requires wearing a suit, and he didn't have one anymore. So, tonight, we went suit-shopping and got him decked out with a navy pinstripe number and yellow striped tie. On sale, natch! He looks damn handsome in it, and I think they should hire him just because of that. What a hunk!
Must shut down brain now and sleep. Got a lot of research done today for a consulting job, but didn't get as much writing done about it as I would've liked -- the suit-buying trip and all. Want to awaken and be productive tomorrow during Audrey's first, AM nap...

Sweet Doomsday
Watched two movies this weekend that couldn't have been any different from one another, and both were good for what they are. Saturday night, we watched our Netflix delivery of the MN-shot and story-set-in-1920s-rural-MN indie film, "Sweet Land."
I really liked it; not one false note in it. Kept my interest in the story and characters, and it was beautifully shot. Ultimately, it's a love story between a Norwegian-immigrant farmer and his sent-by-the-relatives, mail-order wife from the old country. Unlike a lot of similarly storied Hallmark Hall of Fame tv movies, this one really did manage to pull off being cinematic. I highly recommend it if you're in the mood for a satisfying date movie with your Honey.
In contrast, today for our afternoon date sans Audrey (friends Jeri and Charles, and their daughter, Sarah, spent the afternoon with The Shmoo), Ken and I went to see "Doomsday." I thought it was really well done for a post-apocalyptic, things-blow-up, bad-ass-lead-hero(ine)-saves-the-day-with-stoic-cynicism-and-one-liners-movie. Not soul-shifting, life-affirming ART. Just lots of stuff that went Boom! and a hot lead actress who shoots guns and dispatches bad guys with nonchalant efficiency. It had bits of lots of other movies in it, from "28 Days Later" to "Escape From New York," to "Mad Max," and more. Ridiculous, but a hoot.
Audrey will be 11 months old tomorrow. Just one more month until her first birthday - yow!
So far, March is teasing us with higher temperatures and melting snow. It makes me itch to pull out her lighter-weight clothing! But, it's too early, I know.
She's begun feeding herself with a spoon. She can't put food on it with any accuracy, but if I load it up, she'll shovel it in unassisted. That's our baby!
Well, I've got some work-related reading and writing to get to, so I'd better go. Ken is channel-surfing, and it threatens to make me Lose My Mind...

Filmie Self
I am inspired to create another production company. I'm currently having a lot of fun figuring out how I want to manifest it and putting together a business plan.
Here's a list of fairly recent movies I wish I'd made:
Galaxy Quest
Stranger Than Fiction
Ghost Dog

I like stories about characters making choices, especially ones that don't make sense to others around them, but that have integrity in the perspective of the hero(ine). I also like a good action movie and/or sci-fi movie. So, I'm thinking the films I'd like to make include Sci-Fi, Action/Thriller, and Arthouse drama/comedy.
I attended an IFP MN event Saturday night and had a lovely, lovely time. The IFP folks have been very welcoming and encouraging. I like the vibe here. There's something about emerging from Winter that infuses the energy here. It's like, Spring's coming; gotta get Busy! I like that hustle.
I've been invited to participate as a panelist at IFP MN's April Producers Conference. I'm jazzed. And, Kat alerted me to an upcoming American Counseling Association conference in Minneapolis in October for which I'm going to pursue a possible screening opportunity for "jumping off bridges." JOB has not yet screened in the Twin Cities, so...
My Filmie self has returned. I wasn't sure if she'd be back after having a baby, but she is. Coolness.
