SO, I haven't posted in awhile. I guess "regular life" has been setting in. We're awaiting delivery of our new sectional sofa this week and preparing for our first dinner party in the new digs this weekend.
Last night, we came across a string of "Stargate: SG1" episodes on the SciFi Channel and indulged in a couple hours of mindless tube-gazing. Or, should I say, plasma-gazing?
Ken's bid on his first handyman gig in the building, while also reviewing and updating his computer-background resume. He's found a company he's excited to apply to -- it provides mobile tech help to customers.
This past weekend, we got lost while trying to find this charity-based warehouse that sells furniture, etc. We did finally find it, but instead discovered a tatty, little shop across the street with some cool used furniture. We bought a dresser for the bedroom and a credenza for the living room. Now, we just have to figure out how to get them to the apartment...yeah, the store doesn't deliver.
My NY-writer-friend sent me his script to read. I liked it. I want to produce it. I've told him so. I'm waiting to hear back from him.
I had lunch on the lot yesterday with someone who works on the same floor as me, also as a temp. He's a producer-type, too. He likes marshalling the troops; I like marshalling the money and business details. We both like the creative side - finding stories, working with shaping it, supporting the writer, director... My gears are turning. We'll see what unfolds. :)
Progress on "jumping off bridges." The ladies/team in Austin have hatched a DIY release plan to commence in September this year. More details to come.
And, finally, I've been fixated on researching/determining where Ken and I might take our 10th anniversary vacation next year. I've mulled New Zealand, Yosemite, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, Finland, Norway, Istanbul, Mongolia, even. Ken says he'd like to spend the time hiking in beautiful surroundings, so now I'm going to keep looking with that "filter" in mind.
Isn't this the most boring post ever?

Boredom infinitum
Bored. Bored. Bored.
I'm bored.
Usually, I don't like to verbalize my boredom - you know, give it that power. Like, I'm more resourceful, zen, whatever than to submit to being bored. Boredom is a failure of imagination.
Yeah. Still bored.
At least it's a nice day. I have to walk some videotapes over to some people in another building on the lot, so that's a reprieve.
I feel really isolated here.
Decided a new goal is to meet a new filmie/producer-y/agent-y person per week.
Okay, off to my errand.

Shout Out to Zak!
I'd like to congratulate my nephew, Zak Marsh, for graduating high school last weekend. Yow! Zak was the first family member of Ken's whom I met. Zak tagged along in the car with Ken as he picked me up for our second, official date, dinner together at his parents' house for Father's Day. I remember this 6-year-old ball of energy with a mop of thick, black hair and a smile as wide as his face bouncing around the back seat. He was all talk and questions. I liked how he liked words so much. Damn, and now he's out of high school! Holy moly.
In other news, we closed on our Austin house last week. The transaction is all final and everything. So, what did we do with our wads of dough? That's right, we went out to dinner! Campanile is the restaurant I chose, and yow, did I do good. :) The restaurant inhabits the building that Charlie Chaplin built for his offices/company years in the 1920s. It has Spanish arches, cobblestone (or tile?) floors, and now a glass roof over the central courtyard with fountain, so the ambience is lovely. We had a bottle of sublime grenache red wine, fried green tomatoes appetizer, and seared prime rib entrees. Oh, I'm killin' myself just describing it again! Desserts were an apple pie thingie for Ken, and chocolate bread pudding with sour cherries for me.
Sigh.
We also bought a sectional sofa yesterday.
The hunt for living room seating is over! I know you're all as relieved as I am. Now, we're gnashing our teeth a bit over whether the cats will easily destroy the upholstery that we chose, but you know what...? I don't care - I'm done. No more fabric swatches! No more trolling the Internet for stores, sales, specials, consignment stores, used furniture. No more driving to the near and far corners of the LA metro area. No more - finito! I'll go to Petco and buy every cat scratcher thingie they sell, but I'm not changing my mind about the dratted upholstery.
ON Writing Guy - still haven't read his stuff, but Ken is now working (for pay) on his computer.
Tootles for now

So begins my LA handyman career
The past few days I've been working on Tracy & Lisa's house (my first customers!) doing things like grout repair, drywall repair, stucco repair, installing closet shelves, and tomorrow I start building a custom fireplace surround/mantlepiece! Today while out front stucco-ing a neighbor came by and expressed interest in me working on her house!
LA is cool. It's too late to do it justice here tonight so I'll leave it at that.

Points of light and darkness
Lightbearer Films.
I'm playing with company names here. Is that how one spells "light bearer?" Light Barer. No, I don't think that's right.
I had a psychic once tell me that my life's purpose this go-round was 'to bring light to the individual.' I've always liked that description.
Torch Films. Torch Productions. Torch Entertainment. Sounds too we-make-action-horror-movies, doesn't it?
Flashlight Films. Ha ha.
Battery Pack Productions. That's kind of clever and flippant.
I had a moment this morning at work where I suddenly felt accutely unmotivated to go on here in my temp job. I was tasked with logging in boxes and boxes of videotapes, and I thought starkly, 'I can't do this anymore.' Agghhhhhh! It's banal! It's pointless! It makes my hands dry and my brain shrivel! Agghhhhh!!!!!
Okay, back to logging.
